Aim We examined the association between number of words used at age 2.5 years and deficits in intellectual functioning 7 years, 549 children, whether such is confirmed by parental concern about child's development. Methods Parental reports how many their children were analysed for to (assessed with Wechsler Intelligence Scale Children – Fourth Edition,WISC-IV) using linear regression, adjusting sex, maternal education level, IQ smoking during pregnancy. was Early Symptomatic Syndromes Eliciting Neurodevelopmental Clinical Examinations-Questionnaire (ESSENCE-Q). Results Adjusted regression showed that use 50 or fewer relative more than words, associated lower scores Full-scale (B = 7.27, p 0.001), verbal comprehension 8.53, < working memory 9.04, 0.001) perceptual reasoning 4.21, 0.045), WISC-IV, years. common group (Mann-Whitney U test, 0.011). Conclusion This easily accessible measure seems be a valuable marker later life.
